URGENT ALERT: UK, June 10 elections – Candidates’ records on human rights

Innovative Minds have developed a web-resource looking at key human rights issues and the records of various candidates in the European elections this Thursday. IHRC highly recommends that people voting on Thursday look at this page before they decide who to vote for.

The resource covers London and the South East and can be found at:
http://www.inminds.co.uk/election-guide-june10-2004.html

With many people deciding to use their vote as a protest on Thursday, it is important that individual candidates that are supported do not themselves have poor records on various issues of human rights. One such example is in London, where the Liberal Democrats have been courting the Muslim vote. Their first candidate, a current MEP Baroness Sarah Ludford, has criticised the EU Monitoring Centre for issuing too many reports on Islamophobia nd being biased because of doing this. She also vigorously campaigned to ensure that the Jenin massacre was not described as such by the European Parliament fact-finding delegation (24 April). She had previously described it as just \”disquiet\”. For more details on the various candidates track record on human rights abuses and their consistency in opposing them, please visit the Innovative Minds site.
