IHRC is pleased to announce that Tayseer Alouni has been freed by Spanish authorities after being imprisoned for seven years. Tayseer, a Syrian-born Spanish citizen and journalist, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment on 26 September 2005 for alleged links to Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda – none of which have been adequately substantiated.

IHRC would like to thank all of those that campaigned for the release of Tayseer. While we are disappointed that it has taken this long for Tayseer to be released, IHRC urges its supporters to remember the many other victims of injustices around the world that depend on our collective efforts to bring them justice.

IHRC will continue to be the voice of the voiceless, and continue to campaign on their behalf. We hope that you will continue to stand with us in the fight against oppression by writing letters, attending demonstrations and raising awareness.

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
Holy Qur’an: Chapter 4, Verse 75
