Talha Ahsan is a British-born poet and writer with Aspergers syndrome facing extradition to America.  He has now served the equivalent of an 8 year sentence at high security prisons in the UK, despite the fact he has never been charged or tried in this country.  If convicted in the USA he will spend 70 years in solitary confinement in the “supermax” prison ADX Florence.

IHRC is marking Talha Ahsan’s five years without trial with a poetry reading from Ahsan’s book written in prison entitled ‘This be the Answer.’  The title comes from one of the poems about a prisoner cleaning toilets when a guard mocks, “Where is your God now?”  The poetry will be read by a variety of guests including Talha’s parents, actor Riz Ahmed and leading human rights lawyer Gareth Peirce.

Admission is free. To book a place please call 02089044222 or email events@ihrc.org, or leave your name and details in store.

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
