IHRC is deeply worried abut the safety of Mu’allim Ibraheem el-Zakzaky the leader of Nigeria’s peaceful Islamic Movement.
El-Zakzaky is known to have been shot 4 times last Sunday, when the army went on a killing spree against the Movement, in which a thousand are thought to have been killed.ÂÂ Zakzaky, his injured wife and many others were know to have been taken to army barracks.ÂÂ The army has since claimed that he was transferred to a military hospital and later passed into police custody.
However, no evidence that the Sheikh is still alive has been forthcoming, leading IHRC to fear the worst.
IHRC demands the Nigerian government and army immediately release Sheikh Zakzaky and the hundreds detained since the killings early this week.
A demonstration is taking place outside the Nigerian High Commission in London, today 20 December at 5pm GMT.
Venue: High Commission of Nigeria, 9 Northumberland Avenue, London, WC2N 5BX.
