Press Release: Decision to Extradite Babar Ahmad typifies British Justice

The Islamic Human Rights Commission is saddened but unsurprised by the Home Secretary’s decision yesterday to extradite Babar Ahmad to the US.

The decision to extradite comes without a shred of evidence having been produced in a court of law. Babar Ahmad has already been incarcerated for 15 months without charge. The decision to extradite him without any evidence to a country notorious for its use of torture is an affront to justice.

Massoud Shadjareh, chair of IHRC today said:

“This decision comes as no surprise to the British Muslim community. The dual track system of justice in operation in Britain today has meant that due process for British Muslims has become the exception rather than the rule.”
