Now exclusively available in-store and online is” Decolonising the University: The Emerging Quest for Non-Eurocentric Paradigms”, edited by Claude Alvares and Shad Saleem Faruqi with Foreword by Mohamed Idris, has been published by USM (Universiti Sains Malaysia) and CI (Citizens International).

This book includes a collection of essays, taken from a conference in Malaysia, addressing the aspects of colonialism and Western ideologies about education, the ways in which our outlook on everything is determined from the Western point of view and how things need to change.

The aim is to take a different view on the world, one which is away from the Western ideas of knowledge, theory and method, to one which is a unique stance. The essays analyse the way universities function and according to this collection of essays, universities haven’t changed in the form of their teaching methods which have remained constant for nearly a thousand years. The essays examine the way universities function globally and portray that all universities operate in similar ways, which doesn’t mean a method which is successful. The aim here is to address approaches to deal with or resolve this issue.

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
