On behalf of the Malaysian Society at the University of Essex, we would like to present our 3rd annual conference which will be held on May 4th 2005 at the University campus. This year\’s conference is titled: \’Islam and Human Rights in the Age of Democratisation and Terrorism\’.

Our guest speaker is the Former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mr. Anwar Ibrahim.

Other speakers include Prof. Michael Freeman (University of Essex), Dr. Azzam Tamimi (Institute of Islamic Political Thought), Prof. Haleh Afshar ( University of York), Prof. Mashood A. Baderin (University of West England) and Ms. Arzu Merali (Islamic Human Rights Commission)

In order to make this seminar a success, we would be grateful if you would kindly publicise this event on our behalf within your institution.

We believe that this conference will be of much interest and relevance to anyone involved in human rights, religious studies, international relations, government policy, sociology, gender issues or political science.
