Although the Islamic Human Rights Commission welcomes the guilty verdict in the De Menezes case, the Commission believes that the whole policy of ‘shoot to kill’ itself should have been on trial.

The verdict also vindicates IHRC’s stance in cutting all official ties with the Metropolitan Police for its implementation of ‘Operation Kratos’, a policy which allows for the execution of a person without trial on the basis of mere suspicion by an individual officer.

In response to the verdict, Chair of IHRC, Massoud Shadjareh stated:

‘We call upon the Metropolitan Police to publicly end this brutal and counterproductive policy.’
