Arafat Jaradat, died on Saturday 23rd February, following torture in Megiddo Prison by Israel’s security service Shin Bet. A post-mortem revealed signs of torture. Thousands of mourners gathered for his funeral and almost 4,500 Palestinian prisoners refused food on Sunday 24 February in protest over his death.
Due to the rapidly changing situation IHRC has called for two protests to take place this week. The first will take place outside G4S headquarters.  The British security company that provides security systems and the central control room at Megiddo prison and security equipment for Al Jalameh.  The second demonstration will target the BBC for their silence on covering the plight of Palestinian hunger strikers such as Samer Al-Issawi.
In spite of the increasing international awareness and campaigns on the issue of the Palestinian hunger strikers, BBC only reported on their situation following the death of Arafat Jaradat. Is the BBC waiting for one of these hunger strikers to die before they cover their plight?

Chair of IHRC, Massoud Shadjareh said, “Palestinian prisoners are suffering at the hands of the Israelis, yet the media is neither covering it adequately nor are they covering the fact that a British security company provides support to the Israeli security apparatus.  We need to target both the BBC and G4S.”

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
