Forwarded Alert: UK – Protest for the immediate release of imprisoned Sheikh Omar Abdulrahman

Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahman is an elderly Egyptian sheikh, imprisoned in the United States in 1995 through sedition laws last used during the American civil war. He is now 73 years of age, and his health has deteriorated significantly. There is a high chance that he may die soon, and his family have requested for him to be able to spend his last moments with them in Egypt.

This demonstration is a human rights appeal to release this great Muslim scholar. It is extremely cruel to imprison a man with such conditions in solitary confinement for such a long time. The Egyptian authorities have officially asked for his return to Egypt yesterday, 3rd May 2011. Please call for his return and join our protest on:

Friday 6th March 2011

From 14:00 to 17:00

March from Regent’s Park Mosque to the US Embassy in London

Please invite as many people as you can to join the protest.

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
