A Celebration of Sacrifice, Faith and CommunityYan’s Hajj: The Journey of a Lifetime – Fawzia Gilani

Yan is a big-hearted young man determined to perform Hajj, the pilgrimage to Makkah. But first, he must work hard on his farm and fill up his money bag for the journey. Despite the trials he faces on each unsuccessful trip to the Kaaba, Yan’s helpful nature, compassion, and generosity enable him to succeed in the end.

An Ocean in One Drop: The Tale of Hajar in Hajj – Mariam HakimA Celebration of Sacrifice, Faith and Community

An Ocean in One Drop is a children’s book that retells the story of Hajar, whose experience is honoured during the Islamic Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage through the ritual of Sa’ee and the drinking of Zamzam water. Through the story of Jamila and her grandmother, young readers learn about Hajar’s desperate search for water in the desert while caring for her infant son, a journey pilgrims symbolically recreate by running between two hills seven times.

Using poetic rhyming couplets and beautiful watercolour illustrations, the book explores themes of water and desert, life and death, and the connection between ancient traditions and modern life, while celebrating the importance and strength of women’s stories in challenging inequality and inspiring future generations.
