NEW CAMPAIGN: Stop the indefinite detention of foreign nationals in the UK

IHRC has been at the forefront of campaigning against various unjust so-called ‘anti-terrorism laws’ since 1998.

It gave evidence to the Review Committee of the Anti-Terrorism Crime & Security Act which, amongst other things, allows for the detention of foreign nationals without charge, indefinitely. The Review Committee has now reported and called for these powers to be scrapped.

The law has resulted in many abuses, but in particular hundreds of men have been detained without charge in maximum security prisons without being charged with a crime.

IHRC has designed a model letter for campaigners to send to their local MP asking them to bring the issue up in Parliament and to demand that the government scrap the powers to detain foreign nationals.

The letter can be downloaded from:

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
