28th March 2001

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam,

Salamun alaikum,

IHRC has the pleasure of announcing the visit of Mu’allim Ibrahim Al-Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, to the UK. Veteran campaigners will remember the campaign for his release from detention on trumped up charges under the regime of Sani Abacha between 1996 – 1998.

Mu’allim Al-Zakzaky will be addressing a number of meetings around the country on issues regarding Islam in Nigeria and the region, as well as globally. He will of course, be touching on the much discussed but little understood issue of the implementation of shariah in Nigeria, as well as historical and contemporary issues.

We are currently in the process of finalising a schedule for Mu’allim Al-Zakzaky between Saturday 31st March and Wednesday 11th April. Please contact us as soon as possible if you would like to arrange a talk in your area. There may already be one planned, so please contact us for further details. A provisional schedule of dates will be out in the next couple of days.

Please call the office on 020 8902 0888 or e-mail us at ihrc@dial.pipex.com. Alternatively you can fax a request to us on 020 8902 0889.

Many thanks,

Wassalaam,

Massoud Shadjareh
Chairman
Islamic Human Rights Commission.
