Background

On 5 December 2019 a Kaduna High Court Judge ordered that Sheikh and Mallima be moved from their place of detention to Kaduna Central Prison. Not only is their continued detention illegal and immoral, both are in very poor health and any such move could worsen their situation even further, possibly with catastrophic consequences.

We have just received reports that the Sheikh and Mallima are being denied their medication in prison by the Governor, who is also refusing for him to see his doctor.

The FreeZakzaky campaign demands the immediate release of Sheikh and Mallima and all those detained after the Zaria Massacre of 2015.

Subject:  Urgent – Demand that Sheikh Zakzaky and Mallima Zeenah be given their medication and access to doctor

Dear [Insert Ambassador/High Commisioner’s name],

I am writing to inform you about the dire situation of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and Mallima Zeenah. The Sheikh was recently transferred to the Kaduna Central prison, it has now to come to our attention that the Governor of the prison has refused the Sheikh the crucial medication he requires and is refusing for a doctor to examine him.

This news is deeply concerning, especially at a time where the health of the Sheikh is in critical condition, as is that of Mallima Zeenah.  Refusing their medication could lead to dire and even fatal consequences. The Nigerian High Court has repeatedly given the verdict that the Sheikh is in a critical health condition and that he is required to leave the country for access to doctors outside of Nigeria as the hospital apparatus within Nigeria is unable to treat his conditions.

I therefore demand you to contact the relevant authorities to intervene allowing the Sheikh his medication and access to his doctor immediately. I await your urgent confirmation that this will be the case.

Yours sincerely,

[Your name]
