In A Fundamental Fear Salman Sayyid discusses contemporary Muslim political identities which is complemented by his most recent book Thinking Through Islamophobia: Global Perspectives where he explores the use of the term Islamaphobia alongside twenty six contributors who illustrate various arguments on the topic.

Reviews:

Sociology on ‘A Fundamental Fear’:
“[Sayyid] takes a fresh look at how Islam has reached its much-maligned status… Not only is [Sayyid] polemical, incisive and engaging, he is at times poetical. His use of metaphor and analogy serves to illustrate the complexity of the issues that he is putting across.”

David Theo Goldberg, author of The Threat of Race: Reflections on Racial Neoliberalism on ‘Thinking Through Islamophobia’
‘Islamophobia has become a dominant form of racist expression across the contemporary global North. Thinking Through Islamophobia provides an especially welcome, timely, and varied set of accounts about what the phenomenon covers, why the current upsurge, and how effectively to think about it.

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
