The International Institute for Scientific Studies – a member organisation of Decoloniality Europe – is setting up a new series of books entitled ‘Decolonizing The Mind’. The series is about the legacy of colonialism in knowledge production and distribution and topics that are relevant for social movements that struggle against this legacy.

The series is published in cooperation with Amrit Publishers and all contributing authors write from a decolonial perspective.

A decolonial perspective has three dimensions:

1. A critique of how the legacy of colonialism is manifest in the scientific colonialism. Scientific colonialism is the branch of ideology that presents colonial views as science

2. An alternative analysis of scientific colonialism that is rooted in the experiences of the colonized people.

3. A translation of knowledge in actions of social movements that struggle against the legacy of colonialism.

The general editors of the series are Sandew Hira and Stephen Small.

Sandew Hira is an independent scholar and director of IISR. Hira is visiting lecturer at the Anton de Kom University in Suriname.

Stephen Small is Associate Professor of African American Studies at the University of California, Berkeley; and Extraordinary Professor for the Study of Dutch Slavery and its Legacy at the University of Amsterdam.

On Saturday, 11 October at 5pm both authors will be in conversation to discuss the launch of the first two books in the series: ’20 Questions and Answers on Dutch Slavery and its Legacy’ and ’20 Questions and Answers on Reparations’
