Organisers of the Al-Quds Day demonstration in support of Palestine will press ahead with plans for a rally tomorrow in defiance of a government ban on the march.

Thousands of people are expected to turn up at the static demo in London after a last-minute decision by the authorities late Wednesday evening to stop the march.

The decision came after an orchestrated hate campaign by pro-Israel politicians and media designed to thwart the annual event.

After several months of negotiating march logistics with the Metropolitan Police, IHRC learned through media sources late on Wednesday 11 March that the force had asked the Home Secretary to ban it on vague and spurious grounds of the risk to public order.

IHRC has commenced a legal challenge against the decision which, it is hoped, will be heard in the coming days. Unfortunately the government decision was deliberately timed to forestall the possibility of a successful High Court challenge allowing the march to proceed as originally planned.

Police have now given the green light for a static demonstration.

The rally is set to take place at the Albert Embankment in London on Sunday 15 March between 1-3pm. The postcode is SE1 7TY and the nearest tube stations are Vauxhall and Lambeth North.

Ironically, the ban has only had the effect of pulling in more attention and support for Al-Quds Day and organisers expect a big turnout.
