After careful consideration and consultations with our legal team, Islamic Human Rights Commission has reluctantly taken the decision to not proceed with efforts to challenge the police ban on the Al-Quds Day march earlier this year.

The reasons for the decision are twofold:

Firstly, unfortunately we have not raised the required level of funds necessary to challenge the ban.

And secondly, in the hostile political and media environment currently prevailing around the defence of Palestinian rights, we have little faith that the courts will provide justice.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has encouraged and supported us in challenging the police’s infringement of our civil liberties.

All funds raised for the legal challenge will be redeployed to defending our right to protest against Israel’s genocide in Gaza. This includes preparing in advance against police infringement of our rights at next year’s Al-Quds Day protest.

We will continue to stand up for the right to defend Palestinian rights and leave open the possibility of legal challenges against any future curbs on Al-Quds Day or indeed any  other lawful protests against Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people.
