Summary

After the EU refused to cancel the EU-Israel Association Agreement, write to your MEP expressing your outrage at the decision.

Background

Firstly, we would like to thank all residents of the EU who wrote to their MEPs regarding the review that took place on 23rd June within the EU, to discuss whether they should cancel the EU-Israel Association Agreement. Unfortunately, the EU decided not to cancel this despite the very obvious breach of Article 2 of the agreement which requires both the EU and Israel to respect ‘human rights and democratic principles.’

This is, however, just a start and we need to hold the EU accountable for their responsibilities regarding the ongoing Genocide.

The EU-Israel Association Agreement was signed in 2000, giving the Zionist state preferential trading rights with the European Union. The EU is their largest trading partner, with EU trade accounting for 32% of all trade with the Zionist state in 2024.

Action Required

Campaigners living in EU countries are requested to email their Member for the European Parliament (MEP) telling them of how shameful it is that the EU has not cancelled the EU-Israel Association Agreement in all its facets and pressurise EU heads of states to follow their commitments under the Genocide Convention. Find their contact details here.

Dear [Insert name],

Re: The shameful refusal of the EU to not cancel the EU-Israel Association Agreement and sanction Israel

After almost two years of genocide taking place in Gaza, I am shocked at the European Union’s disgraceful decision to not cancel the EU-Israel Association Agreement, despite reviewing it in relation to article 2 of the agreement which states:

“Relations between the Parties, as well as all the provisions of the Agreement itself, shall be based on respect for human rights and democratic principles, which guides their internal and international policy and constitutes an essential element of this Agreement.”

To not follow the rules of the agreement or the European Union itself, the EU has become a laughing stock and has shown itself to be a lawless organisation, above its own rules. This is now in danger of making the organisation irrelevant. As United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese said on the matter:

The EU, which had already disgraced itself by entering the Association agreement with Apartheid Israel years ago, is now refusing to suspend it. This is the final piece of evidence that the EU is consciously supporting Israel’s genocide of the Palestinians. This risks to be the end of EU values.”

Considering this infuriating scandal, I call on you to be on the right side of history and demand your Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of State to follow through on their commitments under the Genocide Convention and push to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement, with a view to its complete cancellation, and impose sanctions upon Israel.

I look forward to hearing of the action you have taken.

Yours sincerely,
