Summary

IHRC asks campaigners to write to / email their parliamentary representatives to demand an end to the lobbying of Hindutva groups in your country.

Background

The rise of Hindutva politics in India has resulted in the supremacist government of Narendra Modi and the BJP.  Details of the devastating impact this has had on minoritized groups can be found on the IHRC India Campaign page here.

Hindutva politics also extend beyond the borders of India, with the rise of politicians and lobby groups both supporting the Islamophobic and anti-minorities policies and ideology of Hindutva in India, but also propagating similar hate in other states.  For detailed analyses of how this has happened, and examples read From Nagpur to Nairobi to Neasden

Dear [INSERT NAME],

Re: Rise of Hindutva politics in [INSERT NAME OF YOUR COUNTRY]

I am writing to express my concern at the rise of Hindutva supremacist ideas in the politics of this country.  This includes inflammatory Islamophobic narratives that find homes within the far-right outside of India.  In this country prominent figures have either remained muted on this issue or have made laudatory comments in support of discriminatory and sometimes genocidal rhetoric coming from India.  Groups and even some politicians have shown open support for the discriminatory, vindictive and anti-minority policies of the current Indian government.

I demand that you raise questions with the government about the role of Hindutva lobbying and the alarming rise of such unacceptable bias in the political life of our nation.

I look forward to your quick response outlining your proposed course of action.

Yours sincerely,
