Alert: UK – Part-time vacancy at the Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC): Events Officer

Events Officer: 2 days a week
Six months (with possibility of extension) starting week of 10th November 2008 £12,000 pro rata

IHRC is looking for a part-time worker to join its dynamic team, based in London, UK. The post of events officer is offered to candidates who have an interest in human rights and the ability to organise and manage both small and large events (see job description below).
Applicants should be computer literate and conversant with the aims and work of the IHRC. Applicants should provide at least two personal references and one academic or appropriate professional reference and a CV, with a covering letter briefly outlining why they want to work for IHRC.

Applications (including references) must be received by 5 pm Friday, 24th October and applicants must be available for interviews for short-listed candidates on Tuesday 4th or Thursday 6th November.

IHRC hours are 10 am – 6 pm, and our offices are based in Wembley, London. Some work during unsociable hours may be required.

Job description:
As Events Officer you will be responsible for organising a range of IHRC events from international conferences, to seminars to large demonstrations.
This includes publicising and marketing the event, writing press releases, booking venues, caterers, decorators, flights, hotels, building and maintaining databases, writing and sending out invitations, researching the target audience, organising stalls and recruiting and managing volunteers. Responsibilities also include fundraising, risk assessment, liaising with MPs and academics, drafting budgets, managing the events and ensuring they run smoothly.
The Events Officer will be assigned a line manager is expected to work with the various sections of IHRC to help facilitate and promote the work. This may include some general administrative work for IHRC
