Alert Update: Nureddin Sirin victorious at European Court of Human Rights

IHRC is pleased to announce that the European Court of Human Rights has found in favour of Nureddin Sirin in his case against Turkey. Nureddin had been convicted in 1997 by a Turkish court to 17 and a half years imprisonment years for organising a pro-Palestinian demonstration. He was finally released in November 2004 after spending seven and a half years in prison.

With the help of IHRC and Arani & Co., Nureddin brought his case to the European Court of Human Rights in March 1999. This month the court found that Turkey had violated Nureddin’s right to a fair trial under Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

This is the first case that IHRC has brought to the European Court of Human Rights and it has Alhamdolillah found success. After an epic struggle spanning almost eight years, Nureddin has finally obtained justice. IHRC extends its congratulations to Nureddin and to all campaigners for their tireless efforts over the years in securing freedom and justice for Nureddin.
