The day also marks the tragic martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the beloved grandson of the Prophet, and his family in the plains of Karbala (may Allah be pleased with them). We also have few announcements for you.

A ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon on 27 November 2024 has brought an end to recent hostilities – though daily violations of the ceasefire agreement are reported – , but the scale of damage, of people returning or still displaced means that the humanitarian needs will continue to unfold in parallel to critical needs for recovery and reconstruction.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, between October 2023 and November 2024 the Israeli military attacked 67 hospitals, 56 primary health care centres, and 238 emergency medical teams, killing at least 222 medical and emergency relief workers

We need your support to help tens of thousands of people affected by the crisis with food parcels, hygiene kits, blankets and mattresses, and provide thousands of items of medical supplies for hospitals and primary healthcare clinics. Click below in order to donate.

Ashura 2025Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei: The Life and Legacy of a Wise Leader by Saied Reza Ameli

This book offers a rare and incisive portrait of one of the most influential figures in contemporary global politics and Islamic thought. In 144 pages, this volume distils the profound intellectual architecture and enduring legacy of Iran’s Supreme Leader, presenting an account that is both scholarly and accessible.

This work is far more than a mere chronology of events. It is an exploration of a distinctive leadership philosophy—rooted in divine

wisdom (Hikmah), Quranic values, and strategic foresight—that has guided Iran through decades of immense internal transformation and external pressure. With clarity and precision, Professor Ameli unveils the intellectual underpinnings of Ayatollah Khamenei’s worldview, highlighting themes of justice, spiritual resistance, popular governance, and civilisational renewal.

At a time of escalating geopolitical tensions and regional upheaval, this biography emerges as an essential lens through which to understand Iran’s internal cohesion and its assertive posture on the global stage. The book explores not only the moral and theological foundations of Khamenei’s leadership but also his commitment to scientific advancement, economic resilience, and cultural sovereignty. This is a narrative of leadership with moral clarity, civilisational ambition, and unwavering purpose.

For scholars, policymakers, and those intrigued by contemporary Islamic thought, this book offers a compelling and necessary contribution. It is a testament to leadership anchored in values, and to a vision that dares to challenge the prevailing order.

Ashura 2025Yasser and Zahra investigate what happened after Ashura

“Grandfather, what happened to the Ahlulbayt after Imam Husayn was killed?” Yasser asked. “What happened to his children, to Lady Zainab, to Imam Sajjad…?”
Zahra was not sure she wanted to know what had happened next. Grandfather’s face told her that it would be even sadder than what they had already witnessed last year. Yasser had a very different look on his face. He seemed to be bubbling with anticipation at the thought of investigating more.

They both watched Grandfather keenly, but for once he seemed hesitant to speak. “Yasser…Zahra… my dear children, the Ahlulbayt suffered terribly at the hands of some very evil people. If you take this journey, you must be prepared to witness many scenes that will change your lives forever. The atrocities the Ahlulbayt faced are beyond anything anyone has ever faced, but their courage, strength and unshakeable faith were also astonishing. Are you ready to see all that?”
Yasser and Zahra did not hesitate and nodded in unison.

They were ready. “In that case,” Grandfather said, “let me tell you a story…

Ashura 2025Al-Arbain: On the Duty of Loving the Noble Family of the Prophet Muhammad – Muhammad Ibn Jaffar al-Kattani

In this collection of 42 hadith, al-Hafiz al-Kattani tackles a subject that has been neglected by modern Islam and yet is one that lies at the core of the religion, namely, the love of the noble family of the Prophet ﷺ. Al-Hafiz al-Kattani demonstrates categorically that to love the family of the Prophet ﷺis an integral part of Sunni Islam and a foundational attitude of the believer.

Al-Hafiz Abu ‘Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ja’far al-Kattani (b. 1273 AH) received his early religious education in his native Morocco, then travelled to Syria and the Hijaz to continue his studies with many leading scholars of his time. He was a specialist of hadith but also mastered other sciences including Islamic jurisprudence. He was deeply involved in the political struggle against colonialism, and was a great support to the legitimate Muslim rulers.

Ashura 2025The Blood of God – A Commentary on the Ziyarat of Ashura – Seyyed Mehdi Shojaei (Author), Hamid Tehrani, Yasaman Tehrani (Translators)

Fourteen centuries ago on the plains of Karbala, the martyrdom of Husayn, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, his family members and his loyal companions took place. It was a calamity of such cosmic proportions that all other tragedies in human history pale in comparison to it.

Since then, Husayn has remained an icon of resistance for all Muslims and even non-Muslims around the world in their fight against the oppressors of their times. Even Mahatma Ghandi professed that he learned from Husayn how to resist colonialism.

This book evokes the sad passages of that tragedy and explains why the bond between the lovers of Husayn and his legacy has gone from strength to strength in history to the point that in our time every year tens of millions from all over the world flock to his shrine to renew their pact with him and declare their disavowal of tyrants in any place or any era.

Seyyed Mehdi Shojaei has published over 100 works such as short stories, plays, novels, screenplays, satirical fiction and children’s stories. As a trailblazer in the field of modern religious literature, he has left his indelible imprint on contemporary Iranian culture.

Ali Vazirian is a graphic designer, art director and painter whose work has been exhibited around the world. He is also an award winning director and screenplay writer who has served as a jury at many film festivals.
