Introduction

Make sure not to miss this event on how we can unite for justice in Palestine. As part of a series on perspectives on Convivencia we will be discussing how Muslims, Jews and Christians can live together in a single democratic Palestinian state, from the perspective of Muslims from four different continents. This event will be possible to attend in person or join via Zoom.

Description

Since its launch in 2022, The Convivencia Alliance has worked hard to combat the myth spread by the colonialists that Muslims, Christians and Jews cannot live together in peace and harmony, whether in the UK or abroad. One of the places that we have focussed on is Palestine, where a brutal apartheid is in place. On this topic we decided to release a document known as the Convivencia Declaration, calling for an end to the apartheid and the creation of a single Palestinian state with equal rights for all its citizens regardless of their ethnicity or religion. We decided to follow it up with a series of events discussing the declaration from the perspectives of members of the three main faith groups in historic Palestine. The first was on Christian perspectives, with Christians from South Africa, The United States, Northern Ireland, the UK and Palestine speaking. This was followed up with a Jewish perspectives event, once again bringing Jewish speakers from across the World (links to watch both these events are below).

This event will bring together Imam Dawud Walid from the United States, Imam Rashied Omar from South Africa, Shaykh Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid and author Norma Hashim from Malaysia and Massoud Shadjareh from the United Kingdom. It will take place on Sunday 8th October at 3pm, at the P21 Gallery.

The Convivencia Alliance is a coalition of various groups, led by the Islamic Human Rights Commission, Jewish Network for Palestine and the Peacemaker Trust.
