Background

Many superhero fans have been excited to hear that there will be a new Captain Marvel movie scheduled for 2024. However, the movie has become overshadowed by controversy, as it was announced that a controversial racist character will be making an appearance. The character is named Sabra, the word meaning a Jewish person who is born within the apartheid in Palestine, and to make matters worse, she works for Mossad, the apartheid’s secret service which uses covert tactics to aid and abet the ethnic cleansing of the native Palestinian people.

Sabra made her first appearance in a comic book with the killing of a young Palestinian child, who is painted as a thief and liar, and she has featured around 50 times in comics since, mostly fighting against “terrorists”. Her child is also supposedly murdered by terrorists, and the character has become a very obvious part of a propaganda war attempting to demonise Palestinians and normalise the brutal apartheid. Although created before the Sabre and Shatila massacres, in which the apartheid and Phalangist militias worked together to murder thousands of men, women and children, the word Sabre has become synonymous in many circles with the brutal ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

This will be her first movie appearance, where she is meant to be played by an actress actually hailing from the apartheid itself. This is at a time when outrage at the brutal suppression and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians has increased, and Zionism is no longer seen as acceptable by the majority of the population, even in the West.

Re. Inclusion of Sabra character in Captain America Movie

Dear Sir/Madam

As a fan of Marvel comics and an avid moviegoer, I am extremely upset by the fact that Marvel would return to the racist propaganda of the past. I, like many others, believed that when movies such as Black Panther and television series such as Ms Marvel were released, that Marvel was attempting to make amends for much of its past.

It is unfortunate, however, that you would include such an offensive character as Sabra in your upcoming Captain America movie. Sabra represents Israeli apartheid, under which native Palestinians are denied even the most basic of human rights, and are being systematically ethnically cleansed. To think that in the 21st Century, a company such as Marvel would have the audacity to use such a character is disgusting.

I believe in the representation of all races and religions within movies. I am therefore demanding that the character of Sabra be removed and replaced by a non-Israeli Jewish character, who has no ties or mention of the apartheid there. The name too is offensive as sabra not only means a person who was born on occupied land but also has become synonymous in Arab, Muslim and human rights circles as representing the massacre in Sabre where thousands of Palestinian men, women and children were murdered by the Israeli Defense Forces and allied Phalangist militias. Until I hear such an announcement, I shall be boycotting all Marvel films, TV programs and merchandise, as well as encouraging everyone I know to do the same.

Yours Sincerely
