A successful storytelling session at the IHRC Bookshop, on Thursday 17th April, the IHRC Bookshop hosted the brilliantly illustrated ‘Ilyas and Duck search for Allah’ read by Zainab Zahra along with many other titles such as ‘Princess Aziza and the Purple Orchid’ and ‘Ali and the Spider’

The children found ‘Ilyas and Duck Search for Allah’ to be a beautiful heart-warming story and loved the ‘Duck’ who is a fun, playful character. The children especially enjoyed the illustrations as it added a comical touch to the tale. Even the parents found the story a great way of prompting the children to ask questions about the world around us and to think about our religious beliefs and faith in God. The Story of ‘Ilyas and Duck’ encourages the children’s belief in Allah while also challenging them to be critical thinkers.

Storytelling sessions are a great platform for storytellers as well as children where they can enjoy a great story in an easy going surrounding. This spring break what could have been better than keeping the children entertained by listening to stories that enable them to become good listeners and then having the chance to tell a story or read one out in front of everyone? All the children who came for the storytelling session thoroughly enjoyed it and everyone got a chance to pick one book and read it out to everyone. Through listening and telling stories children not only build up their confidence and communication skills in public, but they also tend to enhance their self esteem, vocabulary and literacy and thinking skills. Storytelling activities not only gives your child the opportunity to engage with other children but also to explore other cultures, heritages and history itself.

The children actively engaged in the session with the storyteller as well as each other, as they were given the opportunity to answer and ask questions. Along with the children even the parents found the session quite interesting and enjoyed every minute of it.

We would like to thank everyone who came and hope to see more of you in our future events. Join our mailing list to keep up to date with our events and campaigns
