Forwarded Media Monitoring Alert: UK Channel 4 \’12 Days in Bethlehem\’

Text of forwarde message follows:

December 16th, 2002

This evening at 7.55pm Channel 4 broadcast a short programme entitled \”12 Days in Bethlehem\” which consisted of Israeli occupation army propaganda footage showing soldiers celebrating as they overlooked Bet Sahour. There was no mention of occupation, Palestinians, many of them Christians, living under siege, curfew and in fear of their lives, at the mercy of these self-same soldiers. Callers to the programme are told that as this is a 12-part series, \”the situation may be balanced out over the course of the 12 days.\”

As there is no moral or military equivalence between occupied and occupier, no amount of \”balance\” can justify the broadcast of material straight from the propaganda department of the Israeli Occupation Army.
