IHRC would like to kindly invite you to the fifth annual Genocide Memorial Day event in Geneva at the Université Ouvrière de Genève (UOG) on Saturday, 26th January 2026, from 6pm to 22pm.
The theme of this year’s event is related to Gaza in Palestine and the genocide that has been taking place in Gaza for the past two years. The speakers will answer the question “Gaza: How did we get there?” They will bring their analysis on how did we get to a situation where a genocide occurred in Gaza and is still on going. Where there is a harsh blockade and where all essential requirements for living have been blocked by the Israelis.
The speakers will be long time local Geneva based Palestinian activist and lawyer Ms. Rania Madi, Anti-Zionist Israeli historian based in the UK, Professor Ilan Pappé, Professor and jurist in international law, Professor Rafaëlle Maison based in France, Professor Raphaël Porteilla based in France, has conducted research on the apartheid in South Africa and has also researched the phenomena of apartheid in Palestine. French Professor and Dr Christophe Oberlin, who has worked in the field in Gaza as a surgeon. The moderator will be former UN Special Rapporteur, Alfred de Zayas.
The event will be conducted mostly in French, with one speaker speaking in English. There will be a question-and-answer session.

L’IHRC a le plaisir de vous inviter à la cinquième édition annuelle de la Journée commémorative du génocide, qui se tiendra à Genève à l’Université Ouvrière de Genève (UOG), le samedi 26 janvier 2026, de 18h à 22h.
Le thème de l’événement de cette année est consacré à Gaza, en Palestine, et au génocide qui s’y déroule depuis maintenant deux ans. Les intervenants répondront à la question : « Gaza : comment en est-on arrivé là ? ». Ils proposeront leurs analyses afin d’expliquer comment la situation a évolué jusqu’à la survenue d’un génocide à Gaza, qui se poursuit encore aujourd’hui, dans un contexte de blocus sévère où tous les besoins essentiels à la vie ont été bloqués par les autorités israéliennes.
Les intervenants seront : Mme Rania Madi, militante palestinienne de longue date basée à Genève et avocate ; le professeur Ilan Pappé, historien israélien antisioniste basé au Royaume-Uni ; la professeure Rafaëlle Maison, professeure et juriste en droit international basée en France ; le professeur Raphaël Porteilla, basé en France, qui a mené des recherches sur l’apartheid en Afrique du Sud et sur le phénomène de l’apartheid en Palestine ; ainsi que le professeur et docteur Christophe Oberlin, chirurgien français ayant travaillé sur le terrain à Gaza. Le modérateur sera l’ancien Rapporteur spécial des Nations unies, Alfred de Zayas.
L’événement se déroulera principalement en français, avec un intervenant s’exprimant en anglais. Une séance de questions-réponses est prévue.
