Hi Lara,
Thanks for reaching out. You don’t give us much time to respond. Given that we are a human rights organisation working in a time of genocidal violence and terror being inflicted primarily by the US and Israel on Gaza, Lebanon, Iran and various parts of West Asia, you will surely realise we do not have time to give to this today. Here are some brief notes to cover your somewhat confused claims. All the information you require is in the public domain and we are not sure why you are so confused (your content as listed is neither accurate or coherent and could open you up to regulatory and possible libel claims).
1. Please note that IHRC Ltd, a not for profit uproot company, is one of the organisers of Al-Quds Day. The Islamic Human Rights Commission trust (which is a charity) has no role in this event. The event has taken place in the UK for some forty years, that is a good decade or more before IHRC was even in existence. It is a family oriented, multi-confessional, anti-racist event that enjoys good relations with all justice loving communities. This is evidenced by the many photographs documenting the event year in year out, as well as the videos of speeches etc that take place. You will see from the various programs that the event has been supported by various Jewish, Muslim, Christian and secular organisations. The names of them all are readily available on event materials. For your ease of reference find this year’s here https://www.ihrc.org.uk/al-quds-day-2026/
If you would like to talk to Prof. Haim Bresheeth from the Convivencia Alliance, please contact him here haim@haimbresheeth.com
As regards the burning of the Israeli flag, you will be aware that this is a routine activity undertaken by a group of Rabbis at various events, and they have attended and of they own accord undertaken this action in the vicinity of Al-Days in some years.
Please note that most arrests you refer to relate to counter-protests undertaken by pro-Israel, pro-ex Iranian Shah and far-right demonstrators. These are the usual white supremacist suspects that attack this event as its anti-racist credentials offend them. You will further be aware that the Al-Quds Day is a peaceful event that was itself targeted for a terrorist attack in 2017 by Darren Osborne. When he failed to breach the police cordon around the event, he proceeded to maim and take life at a mosque in Finsbury Park.
Claims that the event itself has ever caused or is likely to cause public disorder are facetious and mischievous and we trust you will reflect that in your piece.
2. Mr. Shadjareh is Chair of IHRC Ltd. He has no role in the Charity, Islamic Human Rights Commission Trust, and the Trust as stated above has no role in Al-Quds Day. All your enquiries regarding the charity are misdirected and no connection exists for there to be discussion about it. We trust you will reflect that in your piece clearly. You may wish to directly contact him for further response regarding his views or appearances. Organisationally we see nothing improper in his behaviour in promoting the message of universal rights and dignity anywhere in the world, which he routinely has for several decades.
3. As regards Ayatollah Khamenei, recent events have made clear that he was a leader dedicated to promoting social justice and rights for all oppressed people. We thoroughly recommend you acquaint yourself with some of his works on human rights and social justice. As a human rights organisation it is only befitting that we acknowledge the passing of those figures dedicated for universal rights for all. Of course, Israel first actors such as those quoted in the previous article you mention, will likely find the idea of equality and human dignity for all anathema, as evidenced in their support for the Israeli onslaught in Gaza, which as been recognised internationally to be a genocide. We trust you will reflect the Israel first bias of any and all such actors and organisations you quote or interview.
4. Among the inaccuracies in your piece is that the article in which the phrase “We are all Hizbullah” is cited (it is in fact a description of a banner held at anti-war demonstrations in London in 2006) was written after the organisation was proscribed. It was in fact written over a decade before the proscription. It is this type of error or outright misrepresentation, alongside your confusion regarding the organisations involved and not involved in Al-Quds Day, alongside other commissions and errors in your proposed narrative, that call into question both your ability and your intent. We hope you will spend serious time reviewing the points you have listed to check for accuracy, and that you will then return to us with a list of actual questions that relate to our work, Al-Quds Day and indeed any other matter that has a basis in reality. Until them we are afraid your article will be at best another salvo in the Israel first arsenal currently being lobbed at pro-Palestine, anti-racist and Muslims figures and movements.
5. Finally, as per previous requests, please note that the Shawcross review of Prevent was throughly debunked at the time of its publication as an Islamophobic rant.
All best wishes,
IHRC
