REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ON POLICE BEHAVIOUR AT RALLY ON 6 MAY 2002

The Islamic Human Rights Commission has received numerous complaints regarding the behaviour of the Metropolitan Police behaviour from attendees of the counter demonstration to the pro-Israeli rally on 6 May 2002.

If you were involved or witnessed incidents where civil liberties were breached by the police particularly those involving discriminatory or heavy handed behaviour, please send us a brief account of what took place, including the following:

the time the incident/s occured,
the name and number of the police officer/s involved and
the names of any other persons involved in the particular incident.

We are currently producing a report of incidents and our preliminary observations on the operation of a policy of racial profiling by the police of anyone presumed to be a Muslim. We therefore require the information urgently and would appreciate it if you could forward this to anyone that may have relevant information.

If you have photographs or video footage of any incidents, please send us a copy.

The Muslim Lawyers Committee is offering legal support to those who want to take legal action against the Metropolitan Police in this matter. If you wish to do so please contact us for further information.

For further information please contact the Press Officer on (+44) 20 8902 0888 Fax (+44) 20 8902 0889.
