Update Alert: Libya – More refugees removed from Misratah for resettlement to Sweden

Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has received recent reports that around 28 of the detained refugees at Misratah detention centre, who were taken to Romania temporarily, have been resettled permanently in Sweden. Another group, around the same in number i.e., 28, has been transported directly to Sweden for resettlement.

The refugees extend their thanks and appreciation to IHRC and the campaigners who supported their cause.

We thank all those campaigners who have helped campaign for these refugees and we urge you to continue doing so for the welfare of those still detained in Misratah.

These refugees detained at Misratah, dominantly Eritrean, escaped their homelands out of fear of persecution, but suffered an unfortunate fate in Libya, where they were arrested and detained in deplorable conditions. There were reports that they were abused by prison officials as well. IHRC published a briefing about these issues and issued several alerts related to incidents at the detention centre.
