4. Event Reports
This week, we have continued to look at the deteriorating situation in Bangladesh. S.M. Idris of Citizens International has given an insightful overview of why the current War Crimes prosecutions are a travesty of justice. This complements the ongoing campaign (see alerts below) calling for fair trials. Our campaign for Palestinian prisoners continued with a sit-in protest against the killing of Arafat Jaradat at the G4S offices in London. You can read about this and other upcoming events in this campaign on a dedicated page on our website here.
We have news this week of success in the Sampang crisis, with food and water being reinstated to the displaced villagers. Please help us continue this and so many other campaigns with your donations and your time.

IHRC welcomes the news of the reinstatement of food and water in the Sampang sports complex. Following campaign efforts by an IHRC-led delegation in Sampang, food and water supplies were final reinstated at the Sampang sports complex where 274 individuals are currently refugees.
IHRC are urging campaigners and activists to protest against G4S for their provision of expertise and security systems to Israeli prisons, and their complicity in the detention and torture of Palestinian children. Most recently, 30 year old Arafat Jaradat, died in an Israeli prison following severe torture by Israeli security in the G4S provisioned Megiddo Prison. Join the vigil outside G4S next week on 15 March and/or write a letter of protest.
Bangladeshi pro-democracy campaigner and former chief of Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami party, Professor Ghulam Azam, was indicted on 13 May 2012 by Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal for alleged war crimes during the 1971 war with West Pakistan.
The court has been condemned for colluding with the government, and being incapable of conducting a fair and impartial trial. His trial is seen by many as an attempt to delegitimise political opposition to the ruling Awami League party, in order to ensure the latter’s victory at the next election.
Write to your local MPs and the UN demanding that they act to ensure that Professor Ghulam Azam is tried in an independent international court.

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
