Join IHRC for an evening of discussion and book signing tomorrow with Professor Salman Sayyid and ask him questions about his work as one of the leading writers and academics in his field.  Sayyid will discuss his groundbreaking books ‘A Fundamental Fear’ & ‘Thinking Through Islamophobia: Global Perspectives’ (co-editor AbdoolKarim Vakil).

Reviews:

Impact International on ‘A Fundamental Fear: Eurocentrism and the Emergence of Islamism’
“A welcoming change… should be of great interest to those who wish to look at the phenomenon of political Islam and the divination of the clash between the West and the rest from a more sophisticated and theoretical angle… a worthy contribution.”

Ziauddin Sardar, author of Desperately Seeking Paradise and Balti Britain on ‘Thinking Through Islamophobia: Global Perspectives’
‘An excellent and wide-ranging exploration of how the term Islamophobia has been applied in academic discourses and general representations of Muslims throughout the world. This thought provoking anthology contributes significantly to our understanding of a much used and abused concept.’

The event will be broadcast live on IHRC.TV from 18.30 – 20.30 BST (GMT +1) on Thursday 22 September and the books will be available for a 15% discount on the night.

Admission is free. To book a place please call 02089044222 or email events@ihrc.org, or leave your name and details in store.

“And what reason have you that you should not fight in the way of Allah and of the weak among the men and the women and the children, (of) those who say: Our Lord! Cause us to go forth from this town, whose people are oppressors, and give us from Thee a guardian and give us from Thee a helper.”
