Mu’allim Ibrahim Al-Zakzaky, the leader of Nigeria’s Islamic opposition was released from prison today, over two years after his arrest. He and three others on trial with him known altogether as the Zaria Four, were arrested in September 1996
IHRC welcomes the announcement by the UN Special Rapporteur for Nigeria, that he will be visiting Mu’allim Ibrahim Al-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic opposition, who has been imprisoned since September 1996.
Mixed reaction from human rights group after Commonwealth meeting.
The Islamic Human Rights Commission is deeply concerned about the continuing human rights abuses in Nigeria under the leadership of General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
IHRC is deeply concerned that the Commonwealth is hosting a meeting between the Commonwealth country Foreign Ministers, and the Nigerian Foreign Minister this week in London, UK.
