EVENT ALERT: UK – WHEN WILL EUROPE ACKNOWLEDGE?
What?
An exclusive event launching Islamic Human Rights Commission’s (IHRC) latest report entitled “Europe’s Shame: Anti-Muslim Hatred and the Roma of Bulgaria”, featuring the unspoken plight of Bulgaria’s suffering Muslim- Christian Roma Minorities.

Speakers include:
Assen Christov, Former Member of Parliament in Bulgaria presenting a first hand perspective of the discrimination faced. Assen Christov is from the suffering Roma Muslim Community in Bulgaria. Being the first Roma to complete college, in 1991 he was elected as a local Member of Parliament. He later setup the ‘Independent Romani Union’. In 1999, he spoke out in parliament about police drug trafficking targeting the Roma community, after which government officials ordered gun shots to be fired at his family. As a result, Mr. Assen Christov fled to Britain claiming asylum and has been here since.
Seyfeddin Kara, IHRC Head of Campaigns and the report’s author, who will be presenting a powerpoint of his fieldwork and over viewing the report. Seyfeddin Kara studied History at Uludag University (Turkey), and completed an MA at Birkbeck, University of London in 2008. In the same year he also completed a certificate in International Human Rights Law and Practice at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He worked as a researcher at IHRC between 2005 and 2009 and currently heads Campaigns department at IHRC.
