The month of Dhul Hijjah has arrived, we have entered the blessed ten days which means the Hajj season and Eid al-Adha is upon us.

The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are among the most sacred days in the Islamic calendar, filled with opportunities for worship, good deeds, and spiritual growth. During this time, millions of Muslims perform Hajj, the major pilgrimage to Makkah, which is one of the five pillars of Islam and a once-in-a-lifetime obligation for those who are able. The Day of Arafah, the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, is especially significant, as pilgrims gather on the plain of Arafah to pray for forgiveness, while Muslims around the world fast and seek mercy. Eid al-Adha, celebrated on the 10th day, marks the end of Hajj and commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son for God—symbolized by the ritual sacrifice of an animal and acts of charity.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said he following:
No good deeds are better than what is done in these first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.”

“Whoever performs Hajj for the sake of Allah…he returns from Hajj as pure and free from sins as the day he was born.”

When he was asked about fasting on the Day of Arafah, the Prophet said:
“It expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year.

This single volume contains the Arabic edition, English translation and notes by Dr. Gibril Fouad Haddad of ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Umar b.Muhammad b. ‘Ali al-Baydawi’s first hizb of Anwar al-Tanzil wa-Asrar al-Ta’wil (The Lights of Revelation and the Secrets of Interpretation). As a revised and improved version of al-Zamakhshari’s landmark Tafsiral-Kashshaf, Anwar al-Tanzil contains the most concise analysis of the Quranic use of Arabic grammar.

With a style to date and was viewed early on as a foremost demonstration of the Qur’an’s essential and structural inimitability (i’jaz ma’nawi wa-lughawi) in Sunni literature, Anwar al-Tanzil is important and significant, because of its fame and influence. In Dr. Haddad’s own estimation, this work “became and remained for seven centuries the most studied of all Tafsirs,” and it is to be regarded as “the most important commentary on the Qur’an in the history of Islam.”

Hajj 2025An Ocean in One Drop: The Tale of Hajar in Hajj – Mariam Hakim

An Ocean in One Drop is a children’s book that tells the background story of the woman honoured within the Islamic Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage; Hajar. During this pilgrimage Hajar’s story is expressed through the core ritual of Sa’ee, which ends with pilgrims drinking holy Zamzam water. This ritual remembers Hajar’s experience of being stranded in the desert, alone with her infant son, searching for water and help.

The Sa’ee tasks each and every pilgrim with reliving Hajar’s story and following her footsteps, running between two large hills seven times.

An Ocean in One Drop recounts Hajar’s desert struggle to young audiences, through the story of Jamila and her grandmother – who explains the importance of this pivotal moment within the Islamic faith.

Using poetic rhyming couplets and stunning water colour visuals, this children’s book explores Hajar’s narrative through the opposing themes of water and desert, life and death, and ancient heritage in modern times.

The book promotes the power of women’s narratives so that future generations can transcend gender inequality and injustice.

Hajj 2025Manasik al-Hajj – Mawlana Muhammad Carr and Mawlana Yaqub Abdullah

This work has been translated by Moulana Muhammad Carr & Moulan Yaqub Yusuf. The work is based on the hajj works of Imam Nawawi and Ibn Hajar al-Haytami. Hajj is a once-in-a-lifetime journey for most of us and much has been written on the legal aspects of this sacred journey. Of the most famous books in this regard, is the widely acclaimed Manāsik al-hajj of al-Imām al-Nawawī rahimahullah.

Drawing from this classical text, Mawlānā Muhammad Ayyūb al-Nadwī al-Shāfi‘ī, has compiled this hajj manual in which he provides not only a legal text, but also a how-to guide that is interspersed with practical advice.

This English translation of al-Manāsik comprehensively discusses all aspects of hajj, from intention to completion, including the Qur’anic and Prophetic supplications suited to every occasion. Moreover, it is infused with the spirituality and consciousness which are a hallmark of an-Nawawi’s work, that have been retained across the centuries.

Hajj 2025The Salutation upon the Best of Creation: Commentary on the Prayer of ‘Abd Al-Salam Ibn Mashish – Ahmad Ibn Ajiba Al-Hasani

The edition before you presents Ibn ‘Ajiba’s (1747-1809) commentary on the great gnostic ʻAbd al-Salām ibn Mashīsh al-ʻAlamī’s (1211-1294) celebrated salutation, or taṣliyah, upon the Prophet of Islam. The salutation, commonly known as As-Salat al-Mashishiyah (“The Prayer of Ibn Mashish”), is a seminal piece of literature read throughout the Muslim world. Prayers upon the Prophet were initiated by God (Qur’an 33:56), instructed by the Prophet himself, and dutifully carried out by illustrious generations since the Prophetic companions.

Hajj 2025The Autobiography of Malcolm X – Malcolm X and Alex Haley

Malcolm X’s remarkable autobiography, completed just before his murder in 1965, ranges from Omaha and Michigan to Harlem and Mecca, and tells of a young, disenfranchised man whose descent into drug addition, robbery and prison was only reversed by his belief in the rights struggle for black America, and his conversion to the Nation of Islam. Not only is this an enormously important record of the Civil Rights Movement in America, but also the scintillating story of a man who refused to allow anyone to tell him who or what he was.

Hajj 2025Empty & The Ocean – Baraka Blue

A dive into the ocean of Sufi poetry with contemporary Sufi poet Baraka Blue.

“In the name of Infinite Compassion and Mercy. What you hold in your hands is a collection of poems. These poems are reflections on living and dying and dreaming and awakening. I proceed with the firm conviction—for what reason I cannot easily say—that below the layers of persona we each wear, there is a place deep within where we all meet. It is for this reason that we can feel deeply the expression of another being.
