PRESS RELEASE – PALESTINE/WORLDWIDE:

The annual Al-Quds Day to show solidarity with the people of Palestine will be marked with a huge online event

With lockdowns and public gathering restrictions in place in many countries in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Al-Quds Day has been forced to go online for the first time in its 41-year history.

The event, to be streamed live on Youtube, Facebook and IHRC’s website, features short speeches and messages of support from prominent activists and academics.

It is backed by over 100 organisations covering the entire spectrum of society and include civil society activists, Jewish anti-Zionists and human rights groups, from every continent.

The programme can be viewed on YouTube and Facebook for #AlQudsDay2020 on Friday 22 May 2020 between 5-7pm BST.

Normally, each year millions of people join rallies in cities around the world to voice their support for the Palestinians and repeat their call for an end to the Zionist regime’s atrocities and occupation of Palestine. The fact that they can’t this year does not mean the people of Palestine will be forgotten.

Alongside Al-Quds Day organisers are also running a Fly The Flag campaign throughout the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, particularly its last ten days (15 May onwards).

Last week Palestinians marked the anniversary of Al-Nakba (the catastrophe), the name given to their forced expulsion from their land in 1948 to make way for the creation of the Zionist state.
