A group of academics and activists have come together to pen a letter of thanks to the MP Mark Pritchard for his speech in Parliament last week in which he condemned the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
In the speech, the Conservative MP for The Wrekin constituency in Shropshire, had the grace to admit that his “support of Israel, at all costs” for many decades, was wrong. He also said that Palestinians should enjoy the same rights as the rest of us, and this has certainly not been the case for many decades.
Pritchard’s U-turn is reflective of a broader sea change in public opinion against the Zionist state that has seen increasing numbers of politicians and media personalities reverse their support for Israel as its bloody onslaught in Gaza shows no signs of relenting.
To date, Israel’s genocide has killed at least 55,000 people and wounded a further 126,000. Seventy percent of the casualties have been women and children.
Among the letter’s signatories are three convenors of the Convivencia Project, a cross-faith, international initiative for a just peace in the Middle East, launched in 2022.
The full letter can be read here.
