Press Release

The trial of Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife Mallima Zeenah has been adjourned until tomorrow.

Mallima Zeenah, who tested positive for Covid-19 last week, and who had not received any treatment or support from the authorities thus far, was ordered to be removed to a hospital for treatment.

Sheikh El-Zakzaky remains incarcerated in Kaduna Central prison, where his health continues to deteriorate.

Chair of IHRC, Massoud Shadjareh said:

“The continued prevarications and delays in releasing Sheikh Zakzaky are not only putting his life at risk, they expose again the political pressures that are clearly at play in this matter.  When the High Court has ruled the Zakzakys detention at the hands of the state illegal some 4 years ago, it is shocking that other actors have sought to find ways to prolong their captivity.  Nigeria’s international standing continues to plummet with each day of their detention.”

For more information, interviews with one of the legal of team in Nigeria or a member of the Zakzaky family, please call +447958522196.
