British, American and ‘Western’ policy in general is littered with examples of expressions of verbal support for the aspirations of national movements which have subsequently been manipulated to serve the interests of Western powers at the cost of the lives and livelihoods of those people. In principle, the IHRC agrees with the concept of military intervention to support the humanitarian cause as the concept of enjoining Muslims to rise up and fight for the oppressed is enshrined in the Quran.

Massoud Shadjareh, the chair of IHRC, said:

“However much Cameron tries to dress up his drive to action in Libya as one of humanitarian concern, it will continue to ring hollow while he remains silent and inactive in the light of the brutality that has been unleashed against unarmed civilians in Bahrain by his allies in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
“Western hypocrisy is further compounded by the fact that the US 5th fleet that is stationed in Bahrain acts as a bouncer to allow the corrupt ruling family to commit crimes against their own people with impunity.”
