PRESS RELEASE: Report ‘Social Discrimination: Across the Muslim Divide’ now available on-line.

IHRC’s seminal report on discrimination against Muslims is now available to download without charge from our website:

https://www.ihrc.org.uk/show.php?id=1285

Based on a survey of over 1200 Muslims across the UK, the report looks at the exponential rise in experience of anti-Muslim discrimination. In previous studies the figure stood at 45% of respondents, in this study the figure stands at 80%.

It is the second report in the British Muslims’ Expectations of the Government series, supported by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust and was originally published in December 2004. Its findings and recommendations are worth revisiting in the increasingly negative climate against Muslims.

The report by Saied Reza Ameli, Manzur Elahi and Arzu Merali overviews previous literature and makes a case for policy change to reflect a McPherson like understanding of religious discrimination across British Institutions. It picks up on how discrimination can be influenced by negative perceptions of Muslims perpetuated by senior politicians and the press.

The report also cites case studies to highlight the very real problems that Muslims in the UK face today.
