PRESS RELEASE: UK – New statistic shows 40% rise in complaints over discriminatory behaviour by police

The Islamic Human Rights Commission feels that the overall rise in police complaints is part of a growing trend of discontent with the police.

IHRC calls on the Metropolitan Police to address its methods and raise the standards of accountability within its workforce. The reported increases in complaints represent a fraction of the actual number of those unwilling to report their cases and this trend is reflected by the complaints that the IHRC has received regarding their encounter by police.

IHRC Chair Massoud Shadjareh states:

“We call on the Metropolitan police to review the quality of its service and address the perception and concerns within the communities that the Metropolitan Police is institutionally racist and Islamophobic.”
