Mirza Tahir Hussain, a dual UK/Pakistan national, is due to be executed on 3 August
2006 following what Amnesty International believe to be an unfair trial. He has been on
death row in Pakistan for 18 years. He was tried and convicted of murdering a taxi driver. The taxi driver reportedly stopped the car and produced a gun. Mirza, who was
18 at the time, has claimed he was physically and sexually assaulted by the driver. In the
scuffle, the gun went off and the taxi driver was fatally injured.
We are asking the President-General of Pakistan to urgently commute this sentence on
humanitarian grounds and stop this execution. Amnesty International unconditionally opposes the death penalty. It violates the right to life. It is irrevocable and can be inflicted on the innocent.
