Ahmed discussed how our civilization is threatened by a system of crises and he examined a variety of different catastrophes including “Energy Scarcity,” “Food Insecurity,” “Climate Catastrophe,” “Economic Instability,” “International Terrorism” and the “Militarization Tendency.”  Ahmed explains how these catastrophes need to be considered as part of the same ailing system that is destroying civilization as a whole.

Ahmed provided a different approach to other authors who tend to focus on one issue with the exclusion of another.  Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed explained how the unwillingness of experts to look outside their own fields results in why there is so much disagreement and misunderstanding about particular crises. This is what makes Ahmed’s book so unique as it takes a holistic approach to the various crises and does not focus on the usual doom and gloom but provides solutions to the deep rooted problems that face us in the present day.

Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed ended the evening with a review of the current situation in the Middle East and the uprisings that are taking place.  He gave a stark warning to the audience suggesting that if we fail to take a broad view of the problems facing the world then catastrophe is inevitable.

A video of the event will be available on the IHRC video channels and this site shortly.  You can buy signed copies of A User’s Guide to the Crisis of Civilization: And How to Save It from the IHRC website here or in-store.
