PRESS RELEASE:  UK / USA / ECtHR – Response to decision to halt extradition of Babar Ahmed and other detained Britons to the USA

In response to the European Court of Human Rights decision in the case of Babar Ahmed and others to halt extradition to the USA pending further submissions by the UK government, IHRC Chair Massoud Shadjareh said:

“The new British government has a chance to live up to its promise to review the current extradition regime in the UK.  It makes no sense and is patently unjust that where laws exist to try these men in this country should enough evidence be available to make a case, they be extradited to the USA where they are at risk of grotesque violations of their rights.”
