Background:  This stand alone lesson analyses the operation of xenophobia and connects it to current and recent eras.

Learning objectives:

• Critically analyse how the book explores fear of the other, xenophobia
• make links between the story and real-world issues (migration, racism, Islamophobia, exclusion)
• develop empathy and strategies to challenge prejudice in society
• reflect on the role of individual responsibility vs. collective action and the impact of the ‘bystander effect.’
