FOR PALESTINE: THE COST OF STANDING FOR JUSTICE

Salvador Allende: Revolutionary Democrat: This biography is a wonderful account of a man regarded by many as the ‘greatest democrat’ and a prime symbol of leftism within South America. This book looks at the ideology as well as the practical political projects Salvador Allende developed before he was ousted by the US and General Pinochet in 1973. A must-read for all those interested in socialism and leftist politics.

20 Questions and Answers About Dutch Slavery and it’s Legacy: A sharp and well argued account of slavery in the Netherlands. Through asking important questions this piece both helps to uncover the seedy truth regarding Netherlands’ history, and debunks conventionally accepted truths. A succinct book as it covers various topics like politics and economics in only 20 thought out questions and answers.

The Infidel Within: Muslims in Britain Since 1800: Ansari provides detailed historicity of the plight of the first Muslims in Britain with a country-wide account going back as far as the early 19th century. Whilst being thoroughly interesting to read, this book also serves to dispel the notions that Islam and Muslims are incapable of being at ease in Britain and naturally attuned to the ‘east’. Through well conceived research we see the comparisons with today’s Muslims in Britain.
