Dear Jack Straw,

Re: The continued oppression of Palestinians by the Israeli War Machine

I write with deep concern regarding the situation in Palestine. Currently,
Israeli violations of international laws and norms are of such staggering enormity that I wonder why it is that your government has failed to take action – political and otherwise – to stop the aggression.

The government’s stated commitment to brokering peace in the region makes little sense when it refuses to deal with the causes of violence and anger from the occupied namely the violence and cruelty of the occupiers. Without addressing these issues, peace will remain an illusory concept.

Placing the Israeli regime on an equal footing with a Diaspora of landless Palestinians is illogical and also ignores the current and recent historical experiences of the Palestinians. Unlike other political systems, the Palestinians have no legal, political, social or economic recourse for their sufferings. The closest analogy to their experience is of those oppressed by the Apartheid regime in South Africa, which was both rightly and internationally recognised as being racist and unjust, just as the Israeli system currently is.

Brazen disregard for the rights of Palestinians and continued aggression designed to cause terror amongst the large numbers of Palestinian civilians has and will continue to be the obstacle of real peace. The British Government must pressure the Israelis to take responsibility for the casualties on both sides and respond and address injustice suffered by the Palestinians.

There simply cannot be peace without justice in Palestine.

Yours sincerely,
