Author Evening: Recalling The Caliphate

In 2014, IHRC hosted an author evening with Salman Sayyid who discussed his book ‘Recalling the Caliphate’ – a work that engages critically with the interaction between Islam and the global post-colonial world of politics. Sayyid focuses on how demands for Muslims autonomy are debated in terms such as democracy, secularism, liberalism and even cultural relativism.

S. Sayyid is a Professor of Rhetoric and Decolonial Thought at the University of Leeds, and Head of the School of Sociology and Social Policy.
